Canadian Arctic Scientist Dr. Ian Stirling Awarded $50,000 Weston Family Prize for Lifetime Achievement in Northern Research

World-renowned Canadian polar marine mammal scientist, Dr. Ian Stirling, has won the Weston Family Prize for Lifetime Achievement in Northern Research. For more than forty years, Dr. Stirling has studied the ecology and behaviour of arctic marine mammals, particularly polar bears, which has led to a new era of ecological understanding of the Arctic.

The W. Garfield Weston Foundation supports new Arctic research position

The Canadian Museum of Nature has bolstered its Arctic research expertise with a $100,000 grant from The W. Garfield Weston Foundation. Marine biologist Dr. Virginie Roy is the recipient of the two-year W. Garfield Weston Foundation Postdoctoral Fellowship for Arctic Research. Among her responsibilities, Roy will serve as scientific liaison on the museum’s exhibition team that is developing a new permanent gallery on the Arctic.
