Background on this Request for Proposals
Neurodegenerative diseases of aging are among the least understood and most undertreated diseases, and place a large and increasing burden on society. Addressing this challenge requires innovative approaches to accelerating treatments. Canada has a world-class neuroscience research community engaged in solving this problem. Catalyzing and supporting these researchers can help lead to meaningful, timely breakthroughs.
The goal of this request for proposals is to provide support for high-potential translational or clinical research that will accelerate the development of therapeutics for neurodegenerative diseases of aging. This pilot continues our innovative and untraditional approach to the grant process that expedites timelines and allows greater responsiveness to researchers. This request for proposals is open to registered charities (e.g., most universities and hospitals) across Canada.
The neuroscience research pilots continue the Foundation’s long history of supporting medical research, from funding the Banting and Best Institute in the 1960s to the more recent support of the Weston Fellows at the Centre for Research in Neurodegenerative Diseases at the University of Toronto.
